Medium Sheen: Good For

Satin finishes offer higher durability, and moisture mildew protection.

Semi-Gloss

Med-high Sheen: Good For

  • High Moisture Areas

Semi-gloss is the most common sheen used to coat trim and doors. 

Flat/Matte

Low Sheen: Good For

  • Adult Bedrooms

  • Living/Dining Rooms

  • Hiding imperfections

Flat/Matte finishes offer the lowest durability.  Consider a high quality flat paint to inscrease wear and scrubability.

Eggshell

Mid-Level Sheen: Good For

  • Living/Dining Rooms

  • Bedrooms

  • Entry and Halls

Eggshell finishes are most common in all living spaces. Consider choosing a good quality eggshell for high traffic areas.

Gloss

  • Trim, Doors, Casings

  • Very High Traffic Areas

  • Dramatic Rich Look

Gloss is excellent for high traffic and moisture prone areas.

High-Gloss

Very High Sheen: Good For

  • Trim, Doors, Casings

  • Railings

  • Frequently Cleaned Areas

  • Furniture, Crafts

High-Gloss finish is extremely durable and scrubable.  It is often used in busy kitchens and very high traffic areas.
